PARISA HAGHIGHI born in Tehran, the capital city of Iran in 1982. Growing up surrounded by rich culture such as ancient literature, history and art. She was encouraged to pursue a B.A in philosophy and graduated in 2009. Paris has been fascinated by images since she was 15 years old as a young introvert person who took issue with the conservative and religious society that surrounded her, she expressed herself through visual art. She left her country in 2016. She currently lives in Dallas, Texas and work as a freelancer artist and a barber. Her artwork takes a critical view of social political and cultural issues often referring Iranian society. Her work explores varying relationships between popular culture and fine art. As a queer person living under the traditional government of Iran, combined with effort to cope with violence, sexuality and childhood trauma it helps to express herself through paintings. While there were plenty of seemingly negativism, the rich culture and beautiful old city of Tehran was integral in teaching her how to deal with her solitude and how to navigate life’s struggles.
